Complete Buying Guide — Smart Broncograbhandles Shopping 2026

Why Grab Handles Matter Off-Road

Grab handles are one of those accessories that seem optional until the moment they are not. On trails with significant articulation — where the vehicle tilts 20–30 degrees side to side — passengers instinctively reach for something solid. Without a proper grab handle, that means the A-pillar, the roll bar, the door frame, or the dashboard. None of these are designed to be grip points and none of them provide the bracing leverage that a purpose-built handle does.

Paracord handles specifically were invented by Bartact. The original design emerged from the need for a grip that was strong enough to hold a person's weight under dynamic load, flexible enough not to crack in cold temperatures, and simple enough to wrap and unwrap for color customization. 550 paracord has a minimum break strength of 550 lbs — well above what any passenger will generate bracing on a trail.

Bolt-On vs Slip-On: The Safety Difference

Slip-on grab handles — the ones that hook over the roll bar — are convenient and cheap. They are also the ones that come off when you need them most. At full articulation, when a passenger is putting their full weight and arm strength into the handle, the last thing you want is a design that relies on friction to stay in place.

Bolt-on handles use the factory threaded holes in the roll bar to secure a metal mounting plate through the roll bar. The handle is permanently attached to the bar until you choose to remove it. For 2024 and newer JL Wranglers specifically, bolt-on is not just preferable — it is required. Jeep changed the roll bar design on 2024+ JL models, and slip-on handles that fit older JL models do not fit the new roll bar geometry. Bolt-on designs engineered for the new spec are the only option that works correctly.

Paracord Colors and Customization

Bartact's paracord handles come in over 20 colors and can be mixed and matched to match your interior color scheme, seat cover colors, or personal preference. Common combinations: black handles with red paracord (matches red insert seat covers), tan handles with coyote paracord (matches desert build aesthetics), all-black for stealth builds. The paracord is replaceable — if you want to change colors later, unwrap the old cord and wrap new.
